Question: The “Raise the Roadway” project completed in 2019 increased the air draft of which major U.S. bridge without replacing its main arch?

Answer: Bayonne Bridge

The "Raise the Roadway" project expanded the Bayonne Bridge's height by 64 feet to allow the passage of supersized Panamax ships into Newark Bay. The bridge remained open to traffic throughout the project, and was completed across two phases across six years. In addition to raising the bridge, the project also included lane widening, adding shoulders and a median barrier and a new bicycle and walking path.
