Question: What is the oldest surviving suspension bridge in the United States?

Answer: Wheeling Suspension Bridge, West Virginia

The Wheeling Suspension Bridge in West Virginia is the oldest surviving suspension bridge in the United States that was originally crafted for vehicular use. The first bridge to span the Ohio River, the Wheeling Suspension Bridge was built in 1849, and rebuilt five years later after it was destroyed by a tornado. The oldest wire suspension bridge in the country is the Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct in Pennsylvania, also opened in 1849, which was originally constructed to serve as a suspended aqueduct for barges to cross the Delaware River. It was converted to vehicular use in 1898.
