Question: Which U.S. state has the most interstate highway routes?

Answer: New York

New York has the most U.S. Interstate Highway System routes in the country. There are 31 interstate highways that are located entirely or partially in the state — nine main routes and 22 auxiliary routes.

Interstate 90 (385.5 miles in the state) is the longest route in New York — and the entire country — while Interstate 78 (.5 miles in New York) is the shortest in the state. New York is also home to the shortest active route on the Interstate Highway System: Interstate 878 (.7 miles in total) in Queens.

There are over 1,750 miles of interstate routes in New York. Texas has the most interstate mileage of any state with over 3,200 miles spread across 17 routes.
