Traffic engineers and transportation officials across the country have a new resource at their disposal following the opening of the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) this weekend in Washington, D.C. The announcement was made during the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board.
The NOCoE was jointly established by the American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, with support from the Federal Highway Administration. Established under the auspices of the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2), work and research at the center will focus on improving safety and mobility, featuring training tools and webinars to on-call assistance. Planned training topics include integrated corridor management, active traffic management, traffic management centers and incident response.
Resources on the NOCoE website will include case studies, a knowledge center, links to key sites and discussion forums.
