2012 Top 10 Roads - No. 7

Nov. 4, 2012
PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH TURNPIKE, WESTERN EXTENSION

PROJECT: President George Bush Turnpike, Western Extension

LOCATION: Grand Prairie, Texas

COST: $416 million

DESIGNER: AECOM

CONTRACTOR: Prairie Link Constructors

OWNER: North Texas Tollway Authority

This ?nal link of a toll road has not been free of challenges. State Highway 161 is depressed below I-30, and as a result the ?ve-level interchange has three depressed and ?ve elevated direct connector ramps. The original design of the I-30 direct connectors between January Lane and Tarrant Road called for a braided con?guration. The braids were removed by signi?cantly modifying the horizontal and vertical geometry of the four direct connector ramps.
