Design firm selected to study transit-oriented development in Cleveland

Feb. 26, 2020

Design firm Stantec has been selected by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) to lead the West 25th Street Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan.

The plan will look at implementation opportunities and the urban design impacts to bus station implementation for the anticipated bus rapid transit (BRT) program along the corridor.

“The West 25th Street Corridor is a priority to GCRTA as well as the Greater Cleveland community, because we can provide the best type of transit possible in a dense, vibrant environment," GCRTA CEO and General Manager India Birdsong said in a statement. "We are building the framework that encourages new transit-oriented development and that drives economic growth."

Stantec’s TOD experts from across North America are collaborating on the plan, which is expected to be complete in the fall of 2020. The GCRTA received federal funding for the plan as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s Pilot Program for TOD Planning.

Stantec’s Urban Places team is involved in numerous TOD projects. The team is working with walkability expert Jeff Speck on a TOD master plan at a Boston area site requiring flexibility on Red Sox game days. Stantec also wrote the business case for a 15-km tramway project along Taschereau Boulevard, a major corridor in Montreal, utilizing innovative planning techniques to showcase the development potential along the corridor.
