Dareesoft announced the launch of RoadMonitor, an AI-powered solution for comprehensive pavement condition assessment that delivers rapid pavement condition scores across entire road networks. Debuted at the ITS World Congress 2025, this solution enables transportation authorities to monitor, identify and prioritize road maintenance without facing prohibitive costs or operational barriers.

Current Challenges in Conducting PCI Surveys

Conducting pavement condition surveys across the U.S.—whether through manual inspections or specialized survey vehicles—remains a significant challenge, particularly at local administrative divisions. Manual data collection requires trained personnel to physically inspect pavement surfaces, making the process slow, subjective, and especially difficult to sustain in rural areas with limited staff. While specialized vehicles equipped with advanced sensors offer higher accuracy, the associated costs are often prohibitive and this is a slow process. As a result, many local governments are limited to surveying small sample segments or delaying assessments altogether, leading to outdated and incomplete pavement condition data. This lack of timely insight hampers proactive maintenance planning and compromises road safety.

RoadMonitor: Cost-effective, Rapid and Scalable

RoadMonitor provides a cost-effective alternative for conducting rapid, scalable pavement condition surveys. By simply driving a vehicle equipped with the ARA-30—Dareesoft’s compact, AI-powered edge device—and uploading the captured data to the cloud, users can access pavement condition scores for entire road segments within days. Each segment is automatically evaluated based on PCI distress categories such as cracks, potholes, and patching, and assigned a seven-level condition rating, from Good to Failed. All scanned routes are geotagged with GPS and timestamps, allowing users to access historical records and track pavement condition changes over time. The platform also features a virtual drive-through experience using high-resolution images captured every 16.4 feet, allowing users to conduct remote re-inspections with ease.

In addition to pavement analysis, RoadMonitor offers tools for comprehensive asset management, powered by VisionX—Dareesoft’s advanced AI engine that integrates Vision-Language Model (VLM) technology with road infrastructure expertise. This enables the automated processing of visual data captured by the ARA-30 device to identify road assets such as traffic signs, signals, guardrails, and more with zero training. Key elements including potholes, bridges, IRI (International Roughness Index), and road signs are visualized through toggleable detection layers within the RoadMonitor interface. When equipped with an optional sub-camera, the system also captures sidewalks and roadside assets—bringing all essential data together in a single, intuitive platform.

Raising the Bar in Infrastructure Maintenance using AI

While RiaaS started mainly as a service focused on delivering real-time road condition data in 2021 for smart megacities like Seoul, the company had been undergoing extensive research and development on both its hardware and software to prepare a service tailored to comprehensive pavement condition assessment and asset management. Earlier this year in January, Dareesoft had unveiled the ARA-30 device which has an AI processing speed of 15 TOPS and a five-channel camera that drastically reduces numerous blind spots with a lens that captures clear images even while driving at over 70mph during times of low sunlight. The device enabled the launch of RoadMonitor, a new service complementing its initial RiaaS service by providing advanced tools for pavement condition assessment and asset management —expanding the company’s portfolio beyond real-time road condition monitoring. By the end of this year, Dareesoft expects to further expand its RiaaS suite to include solutions for airstrips.
