The Arizona Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff to perform final design for a new 9.5-mile section of Rte. 195 and one mile of Rifle Range Road in Yuma.

Rte. 195 will be an at-grade, access-controlled, four-lane divided highway with a variable width median, extending from Ave. 4E to County 14th Street. Rifle Range Road is a two-lane at-grade roadway that serves the Marine Air Corp Station.

The project will be packaged in two phases, A and B, due to funding constraints. Phase A consists of the ADOT-designed single-span AASHTO girder bridge structure over County 19th Street, installation of flat-tailed horn lizard fencing, relocation of a Marine Air Corp Station water well and parking lot, construction of Rifle Range Road, relocation of utilities, all drainage and earthwork, and the northbound traveled lanes. Phase B consists of paving the southbound traveled lanes.

Parsons Brinckerhoff will be responsible for roadway, drainage, retaining walls and traffic control designs as well as noise analysis and utility coordination activities.

Construction is scheduled to start in July 2005 with completion slated for fall 2006.
