The Nevada Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to prepare environmental studies and preliminary designs for improvements to the I-15 corridor north of the I-15/U.S. 95 "Spaghetti Bowl" interchange in Las Vegas.
I-15 is the primary freeway serving the northeast Las Vegas metropolitan area. The Nevada DOT's I-15 Northeast Corridor Study identified a preferred alternative that includes widening of the interstate, arterial street improvements, enhanced transit and transportation demand management. The agency is looking to continue the project development process for I-15 improvements by preparing alternative studies, completing the environmental process and preparing preliminary plans for the preferred alternative to the level necessary for setting right-of-way limits.
PB will be responsible for preparing the alternative studies to identify the freeway configuration that will optimize transportation opportunities consistent with demand in the I-15 corridor while minimizing adverse social, economic and environmental impacts. PB will develop a travel demand forecast and perform traffic operations analysis for selected alternatives.
A significant element of the project will be consideration of the design-build method of project delivery for the first time by Nevada DOT. If the design-build method is selected, PB also will be responsible for assisting the agency with preparation of the design-build procurement package and selection of a design-build contractor.
