Trivia Tuesday, October 21
Last week’s answer
Question: On West Virginia's annual Bridge Day, which structure do attendees BASE jump off of?
Answer: New River Gorge Bridge
Every third Saturday in October, thousands of people gather at Fayetteville’s New River Gorge Bridge to watch thrill seekers BASE jump, rappel and parachute off of the structure. The 45-year-old tradition has seen world records, weddings and catapults.
The New River Gorge Bridge was built in 1977 and the first Bridge Day was held in 1980 with parachutists. Regardless of how they jump, participants navigate 876 feet between the bridge and the water below.
The iconic New Gorge River Bridge is the longest steel arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere and the second highest bridge in the U.S.
