Georgia DOT making progress on Transform 285/400 project

I-285 eastbound ramp to S.R. 400 opened to traffic this week

As part of the Transform 285/400 project, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) construction partners opened the I-285 eastbound ramp to S.R. 400 to traffic this week.

“This ramp opening is another sign of progress on this project,” Georgia DOT P3 Project Manager Marlo Clowers, P.E., DBIA, said in a statement. “Motorists will notice some differences entering and exiting the ramp, but the footprint is mostly the same. We ask drivers to pay attention to the new roadway configuration and follow the signage.”

The ramp opening will allow construction crews to continue activity within the I-285/S.R. 400 Interchange, including a new ramp extension to Ashford Dunwoody Road from I-285 eastbound anticipated to open later this week.

When completed, GDOT says the Transform 285/400 project will improve operational efficiency, save 12,500 hours per day of driving time and prevent worsening traffic delays over time, reduce weaving along I-285 and S.R. 400, and improve ramp geometry at the I-285/S.R. 400 interchange.

The Transform 285/400 improvement project is designed to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety in the area near the I-285/S.R. 400 interchange in metro Atlanta. This project adds new flyover ramps, new collector-distributor lanes, and other facilities to aid east-west travel along I-285 and north-south travel along S.R. 400. The project will improve 4.3 miles of I-285 from west of Roswell Road to east of Ashford Dunwoody Road and 6.2 miles along S.R. 400 from the Glenridge Connector to Spalding Drive.
