The debate to allot $1 billion to road and bridge projects will begin its second day Jan. 21, as the Alabama Senate continues discussing Sen. Lowell Barron’s (D-Fyffe) proposal, according to the Associated Press.
The plan has met criticism from Republicans, who disapprove of withdrawing $100 million each year for 10 years from the Alabama Trust Fund, a savings account. Barron argued that his plan would mean 30,000 new jobs, but opponents said it is unwise for the state to be spending its savings.
