Falling debris kills Arizona crew member

A Maryland construction worker was struck and killed Tuesday morning on Interstate 95 in Hartford County. The police are investigating.

The worker was struck by a dump truck reversing in a work zone near Mountain Road, according to Maryland State Police. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.

One lane on southbound I-95 was closed for the investigation. Personnel from the Maryland Transportation Authority assisted with the road closure.

The identity of the construction worker has not been released.

This death comes a few months after Maryland's construction industry hosted the annual Work Zone Awareness Week. The construction community in Maryland, specifically in Baltimore, where the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, has had a rough 18 months with multiple tragedies.

Another construction worker from Phoenix was killed by falling debris last week, according to authorities.

First responders from the Phoenix and Scottsdale fire departments arrived to the scene after receiving a call that someone was trapped under debris. The worker was declared dead at the scene.

Debris had fallen from a crane and landed upon the worker.

The Paradise Valley Police Department took over the rest of the investigation.
