The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) launched its new SmartWay mobile app on Friday to give motorists the most up-to-date traffic information from their smart phone, tablet or other mobile device.

Users are immediately taken to a map screen showing their current location. From there, the map can be customized to display different types of information via icons on the left side of the screen. Available data include traffic speeds, incidents, cameras, road construction, road conditions and dynamic message signs.

Additional functions are displayed at the bottom of the screen: Near Me focuses on incidents, construction and road conditions in the user’s immediate vicinity; Notifications sends users customizable alerts for traffic events along a specific route; and Favorites lets users scroll through real-time images from the traffic cameras of their choosing.

The SmartWay mobile app is currently available for Apple and Android systems.
