The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) unveiled a new app that gives drivers real-time information to help plan routes during emergencies and everyday travel.

Available on Apple and Google devices, the app combines critical roadway and travel information updated by TxDOT crews in real time, according to a TxDOT press release

The app supports drivers in making informed decisions around construction, traffic, road closures and severe weather.

Users can access information on flooding, snow and ice, roadway damage, closures and more to help plan a safe route during emergencies. The app also is also compatible with traffic cameras, providing live views of roadway conditions.

The need for real-time travel information was highlighted during the July 2026 floods, when DriveTexas.org experienced a major spike in traffic. On July 16, the site recorded nearly 79,000 users, compared with an average of about 2,200 daily users, according to the press release.

What the TxDOT App Offers

The app provides:

  • Real-time roadway intelligence with information on traffic conditions, construction activity, crashes and closure across the state.
  • Live traffic camera views from thousands of cameras.
  • Emergency readiness tools that provide quick access to evacuation routes and planning resources during severe weather and other critical events.
  • A resource locator for rest areas and travel information centers, along with access to new TxDOT roadside assistance features. When traveling within the TxDOT roadside assistance service area, the app provides the appropriate local phone number.
  • Smart mapping and search with integrated routing to destinations and points of interest throughout Texas.

The app represents the next step in TxDOT’s efforts to leverage technology to improve emergency response, strengthen communication and enhance the traveler experience statewide.
