Division launched NC Transit Cares and supported mobility innovations

The North Carolina DOT (NCDOT) recently highlighted the successes of its Integrated Mobility Division throughout the unprecedented challenges faced in 2020.

NCDOT said the division assisted local transit systems through the challenging year and continued to administer federal and state grants, research emerging mobility trends, pilot innovative technologies, and disseminate multimodal best practices.

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Integrated Mobility Division (formerly the Bicycle and Pedestrian and Public Transportation Divisions) launched NC Transit Cares, which brought together representatives from all of North Carolina’s 98 transit systems to discuss coronavirus response and recovery strategies and to develop solutions to anticipated long-term challenges.

The division also continued their efforts to support promising programs and innovations, NCDOT says. One such program, RIDE, the city of Wilson’s on-demand ride-sharing service, was recognized nationally as a focus technology by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The program was also awarded a $250,000 Federal Transit Administration grant, one of several grants awarded to the division for innovative pilot projects in 2020.

NCDOT created a video containing highlights from the year for the Integrated Mobility Division.
