Thompson-McCully Co. announced that it has changed its name to Michigan Paving and Materials Co. This change was driven by a number of important acquisitions and partnering agreements, including the acquisition of new aggregate facilities that will offer retail sales.

"We decided that we needed to recognize the major diversification in our operations with a significant change in our corporate name," said President Dennis Rickard. "Starting today, we will be known as Michigan Paving and Materials Co."

The acquisition of Stoneco added two new limestone quarries and sand and gravel operations that will market to third parties. A recent partnership with the Edw. C. Levy Co. created Cadillac Asphalt LLC, bringing together two of the state's most technologically advanced asphalt paving operations to serve southeast Michigan.

The largest asphalt paver in the state and one of the largest aggregate suppliers in Michigan, Michigan Paving and Materials Co. employs nearly 1,000 workers across lower Michigan, with 15 paving plants, numerous aggregate operations and a liquid asphalt and emulsion facility in Monroe. Subsidiaries including Spartan Asphalt Paving Co. in mid-Michigan, Grand Rapids Asphalt Paving Co. in west Michigan and Globe Paving Co. in the Battle Creek area will continue to operate under those names.
