Session 2: Quantifying Pavement Rehabilitation Impacts to Minimize Adverse Economic Impacts

3 p.m. Eastern | 2 p.m. Central

Description: Smart road owners plan and try to mitigate the impacts of construction delay on system users and local businesses. This short one-hour web event offers a chance to learn more from researchers about a free, newly developed planning tool that can help quantify these costs. The tool is an easy to use Excel workbook that simulates user behaviors based on a national statistically significant survey. Able to simulate differences based off of location, road volume, time of the year, and local businesses, the tool offers planners a way to quantify the potential impacts of pavement rehabilitation.

Simulations can help planners find ways to minimize these potential impacts to reduce economic hardship. Led by Auburn University’s Department of Civil Engineering, webinar attendees will be introduced to the first nationally-transferable, comprehensive, and inclusive set of metrics that quantify the costs of traffic delay, work zone crashes, and interruptions to local business operations.

Takeaways:

  • Learn about typical hourly costs of rehabilitation, an option to defray these costs, to users and local businesses.
  • Interact with Auburn’s Excel tool to quantify project specific costs.
