The project will help reconnect downtown Little Rock

Little Rock, Arkansas has been awarded $2 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for a deck park over Interstate 30.

The funding comes from USDOT's Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program, which is helping to reconnect communities that were divided by interstate systems.

Officials with the Little Rock Regional Chamber noted that I-30 through downtown Little Rock is one of those communities.

Local nonprofits and businesses came together to submit the grant application, getting support from local organizations and community leaders in the area.

City officials said that the Little Rock business community has worked behind the scenes on this project, pushing for the deck park to be built over the interstate between 6th and 9th Street.

City officials said that USDOT will award construction grants annually over the next four years to the construction work.
