Daniel C. McClain, Founder and President of McClain & Co., Dead
McClain & Co. announced the passing of its founder and president, Daniel C. McClain, today. McClain died at the age of 72 on Aug. 4.
McClain founded the under-bridge access and equipment rental company in 1998 and supported companies and government agencies with the inspection and maintenance of highway and railroad bridges for 28 years, according to a press release. He helped grow the company from a small startup to one of the leaders in the space.
"Losing Dan has brought profound heartbreak to our entire organization," said McClain & Co.’s vice president, David Carpio. "Dan was a mentor, a pioneer, and someone I deeply respect. The best way to honor his legacy is to continue building on the strong foundation he established. In his own words and wishes, we will keep moving forward."
The company will be led by Sarah McLillard and Elizabeth McClain as president and secretary of daily operations, according to the announcement.
As of May 2025, McClain had more than 40 underbridge inspection units (UBIs) on its roster that were available to rent with an operator to DOTs and engineering companies across the country.
