2011 Top 10 Roads - No. 6

Nov. 5, 2011
NORTHWEST ANTHONY HENDAY DRIVE
PROJECT: Northwest Anthony Henday Drive
LOCATION: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
COST: Over $1 billion
LENGTH: 13 miles
DESIGNER: AECOM
CONTRACTOR: Flatiron Graham Parsons
OWNER: Government of Alberta Ministry of Transportation
Canada dry would have been an appropriate anecdote for this project. Unfortunately, crews were left battling wet and cold conditions, but still appear to be on schedule for a November 2011 completion. The new ring road has nine interchanges, four ? yovers and two crossings over railways. Some crossings have multiple structures, bringing the total number of bridges to 29. Design improved the constructability, shortened the timeline and saved over $15 million.
