When the evening commute begins today, riders in select Colorado areas will have a new option to travel between some of Colorado’s biggest cities.
Bustang is a newly launched bus service aimed at connecting major cities and employment centers in the state. The service, which is Colorado’s first state-owned and operated bus system, will begin to allow commuters to travel to and from Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and Glenwood Springs.
The buses will include charging stations, Wi-Fi, bathrooms, reclining seats and bike racks—amenities designed to pull in commuters ordinarily averse to public transit.
The Colorado Department of Transportation stated that the new service is part of its ongoing efforts to reduce congestion and connect major populations along the I-25 Front Range and I-70’s mountain corridors.
The bus service will run during workweek peak commuter hours, at least at first. Weekend service will be considered once the success level of the weekday service has been assessed.
