As part of its five-year transportation-improvement program, the Nashville (Tenn.) Area Metropolitan Planning Organization approved $4 million for a new rapid transit bus system, named the “Amp.”

The 7.1-mile Amp transit route would run from East to West Nashville along the Broadway-West end corridor.

The city wishes to secure an additional $174 million for the bus transit system, with $115 million coming from outside sources. Ideally, state funding would provide $35 million. If honored, a city bid for a $75 million Federal Transit Administration grant would provide most of the external funding.

Those opposed to the program, which commenced in 2011, expressed doubt as to whether the state could reach its monetary goals.
