Miami-Dade Transit partners with Uber, Lyft for late-night essential travel

April 9, 2020

Miami-Dade Transit said this week that the agency is launching a new alternative transportation solution called Go Nightly, a free-of-charge partnership with Uber and Lyft ride-sharing services for essential travel in order to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The decision was made to partner with ride-sharing services for late-night travel since the agency is suspending late-night bus service for Metrobus until further notice.

Starting this week, residents making essential travel between midnight and 5 a.m. can use the agency's Go Nightly promo or voucher to get a ride with either Uber or Lyft, as the Metrobus service will be closed after midnight starting April 10. The Uber or Lyft rides provided through Go Nightly can only originate along select late night service routes, and riders are limited to two trips per night per user.

The agency says the Go Nightly program is meant to ensure that those transit riders who are using the system for essential trips only, particularly to get to and from work during late hours, are able to continue to rely on Miami-Dade Transit to get where they need to go safely.

Since Miami-Dade Transit suspended fares as of March 22, these late night trips will also be fare-free for transit riders until further notice.
