TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: I-80 in Pennsylvania’s Poconos getting camera-controlled system

Dec. 11, 2015

New cameras expected to go on line in early 2016

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) believes traffic congestion along a stretch of I-80 that runs through the Poconos will improve once a new traffic management system goes online between the Tannersville exit and the New Jersey state line.

A series of new poles are presently being installed, upon which a new camera system will be affixed. Three message boards are also going up, along with beacon boards and radio transmitters, allowing PennDOT to get important travel advisories to drivers in real time.

The $1.7 million improvements aren't ready to go live just yet; however, PennDOT plans to have the cameras go live sometime in early 2016.
