The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority received an average rating in a new statewide evaluation of rail transit station, while the best grades went to two Bay Area transit agencies.
The study was conducted by the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment at UC Berkeley and Next 10, a nonprofit research group. The analysis of six rail system operators gave Metro a "C" grade overall, but most of its subway and light-rail stations scored well, including Westlake/MacArthur Park.
Four out of the five worst-performing Metro stops were along the 25-year-old Blue Line, which runs between Long Beach and downtown Los Angeles.
The study gave the highest grades to San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). They received a B and B-minus, respectively.
Sacramento Regional Transit received a C. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, based in San Jose, each received a C-minus.
More than half of Santa Clara's stations received Ds, while San Diego scored the most failing grades with eight and had the worst-performing stop in California: the Gillespie Field Station, where only 4.26% of residents and 4.5% of workers in the in the area relied on transit.
