TRANSIT: New Mexico DOT unveils real-time bus tracking

March 10, 2015

The agency’s app aids users of the state’s Park and Ride service with up-to-the-minute information

Following what is quickly becoming a sign of digital progress within the state transit agencies, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has thrown it’s ring into the digital court in effort to help its Park and Ride service patrons no longer have to wonder how much longer they have to wait for a shuttle to arrive.

The real-time tracking service is available for use with desktop computers, tablets and smartphone applications for both Apple and Android operating systems. The apps, along with offering a visualization of arterial bus routes and the current location of the buses on those routes, also can alert riders when a bus is near a preset destination point and warn commuters about schedule changes.

Technology firm TransLoc developed the real-time tracking software, and has created similar services for other large transit agencies in Santa Clara County, Calif., and Gainesville, Fla., according to the company’s website.

Bus locations can be viewed live at nmdotparkandride.transloc.com or the app is available at the Apple Store or Google Play store; search term: “transloc.”
