$484 million project will shuttle passengers to and from Oakland Int’l Airport

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) officials announced the opening of the “BART TO OAK” transit line, following a 4-year construction period and estimate $484 million infrastructural investment.

The line offers a “train to plain” service to and from Oakland International Airport. Passengers will be able to pick up the service at either the airport or the Coliseum Station. The 3.2-mile link is traversed by three-car automated “people movers” that offer airport service in under 10 minutes. The new driverless line replaces the AirBART service. Schedules have the cars arriving at the Coliseum Station every 4 ½ minutes during peak hours and every 10-20 minutes during off-times and overnight hours.

BART expects to register a significant easing on passenger traffic during the pending Thanksgiving and subsequent Christmas travel periods.
