The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announced the launch of an updated 511 traveler information system last week, designed to provide drivers with more resources for accessing real-time travel information.

Drivers can access the system via computer, telephone, smartphone or tablet, allowing them to get the information they need wherever and whenever they need it. Among the available resources will be traffic camera images; travel time estimates; an interactive map highlighting construction zones and traffic choke points; average speeds of traffic; and weather information.

Users will also be able to access a variety of Twitter feeds with up-to-the-minute updates on roadway conditions. SCDOT says that the system will be up and running and available 24/7. Smartphone and tablet users can download Android and iOS apps from the South Carolina 511 website.
