Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff was in Seattle on Thursday for the opening of two new bus rapid transit lines in King County’s RapidRide service. The new routes join two existing lines in a growing network connecting downtown Seattle with the suburbs and the surrounding area.
RapidRide C and RapidRide D will ferry riders between the downtown area and the growing neighborhoods of West Seattle, Ballard and Crown Hill. They join routes A and B, which opened in 2010 and 2011, respectively and see and average of more than 13,000 riders each weekday.
King County officials plan to open an additional two RapidRide lines sometime in the fall of 2013. The U.S. Department of Transportation has provided federal funding for all six lines, totaling more than $104 million.
