ITS: PennDOT begins ITS upgrades on I-80, I-99

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) began work last week on a project to upgrade intelligent transportation system (ITS) devices in Clearfield, Centre and Clinton counties. Crews will add some new devices while replacing others.

 

The $5.1 million project will center on I-80 and I-99, which currently carry 89 ITS assets, according to PennDOT. Upon completion in October, the three counties will have 112 assets.

The $5.1 million project will center on I-80 and I-99, which currently carry 89 ITS assets, according to PennDOT. Upon completion in October, the three counties will have 112 assets.

Work will begin at I-80 eastbound near the Woodland/123 interchange in Clearfield County, proceeding through Centre and Clinton counties. From there, crews will reverse direction to cover westbound I-80 and I-99.

The current ITS asset mix includes 27 dynamic message signs, 4 semi-permanent dynamic message signs, 21 highway advisory radio systems and 37 closed circuit cameras.
