Additional lanes improve travel times on Louisiana’s I-12
Driving speeds have increased significantly both directions on Louisiana’s I-12 since new lanes were added to the highway, as shown in new data from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD). Westbound traffic between O’Neal Lane and Juban Road moves 25-30 mph faster; eastbound travel speeds increased by 35-50 mph along the same stretch.
The new lanes were added through the department’s Geaux Wider construction program. The multi-year initiative aims to reduce congestion while improving safety on I-10 and I-12 in East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes.
Aside from the aforementioned section, four other interstate segments will be widened over the course of the project. LaDOTD expects final completion of the project sometime next year.
