Grossenburg Implement Keeps Regional Industry Running Smoothly Through Oil and Lube Delivery with Thunder Creek Split-Tank Trailer

June 25, 2021

Grossenburg Implement, an eight-store John Deere dealership with locations in South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming, knew it had to invest in its service department to thrive in today’s environment of always-on machine monitoring, dealership service and uptime optimization.

“We knew we needed to become a one-stop shop for our customers, especially in the commercial and construction industries,” said Charlie Grossenburg, the company’s fourth generation CEO.

After previously delivering lubrication and oil products to customers using a large lube truck, Grossenburg decided to invest in a new Thunder Creek Split Tank Trailer, which is equipped with 495 gallons of bulk engine oil, 495 gallons of hydraulic transmission fluid, plus 80 gallons of coolant. When connected via a custom gooseneck configuration to one of Grossenburg’s service trucks, the rig is a perfect combination of nimble and rugged to service customers in both on-road and off-road environments.

Not only does the Thunder Creek Split Tank Trailer have a lower cost and faster return on investment than a traditional lube truck, but it also has a multitude of other benefits too, Grossenburg said. The first is the efficiency. The company’s service techs can reach more customers in a day than they had been able to with their previous setup, it can reach spots on jobsites or pull-into workshops that previously were difficult to navigate, and because it doesn’t require a HAZMAT authorization to operate, anyone from the company’s service department can tow it.

“A trailer like that is still going to have value in 10 or 15 years, whereas a lube truck you’re really going to run it until the wheels fall off, and you’re not going to be left with any value,” Grossenburg said. “The Thunder Creek is a high-quality product. It’s fast and efficient. The versatility of that trailer has been incredible.”
