Road Conditions

According to the latest TRIP analysis of FHWA data, Rhode Island's overall road conditions are highly alarming.

  • 50% of state roads are considered to be in poor condition.
  • 27% of state roads are considered to be in mediocre condition.
  • 10% of state roads are considered to be in fair condition.
  • 13% of state roads are considered to be in good condition.
Bridge Conditions

According to the latest FHWA data, Rhode Island's overall bridge conditions are alarming. 19.0% of state bridges are considered to be in poor condition, 62.5% are in fair condition, and 18.5% are considered to be in good shape, ranking the state as 3rd in the nation according to the American Road Transportation Builders Association's deficiency rank (which takes into account the District of Columbia, as well as Puerto Rico).

There are 777 bridges in the state, comprising 767,426 sq meters of overall bridge deck area.
