With the 2014 ITS World Congress approaching, the U.S. DOT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Program Office revealed its slate of demonstrations, simulations and information sessions related to connected-vehicle technology.
Highlights of the Joint Program Office’s program for the week include:
- A Connected Vehicle Safety Technology Demonstration, where participants will be able to experience the various safety applications firsthand;
- An Integrated Mobile Observations Demonstration, which will take participants in a demo van wired to collect and analyze road weather data via connected-vehicle technology;
- Connected vehicle driving simulators, offered through a partnership between U.S. DOT and the National Advanced Driving Simulator at the University of Iowa. With participant consent, researchers will record driver performance for future analysis of warning and alert effectiveness;
- An information session on the Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program, which U.S. DOT hopes to initiate in 2015; and
- A live demonstration of connected-vehicle test beds.
Show attendees must be registered via ITS America in order to participate in several of the demonstrations.
U.S. DOT will also host and participate in a number of workshops and panels throughout the week.
The 2014 ITS World Congress is scheduled for Sept. 7-11 in Detroit.
