The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has issued a $6.8 million contract to install two single-lane roundabouts in northwest Charlotte, according to an agency press release.
The roundabouts will be constructed at the intersections of Oakdale, Miranda and Simpson roads, and Oakdale, Sunset and Miranda roads to improve traffic efficiency at slower speed and reduce crashes, the NCDOT release states.
The construction contract was awarded to TrueRock Construction, LLC, with work expected to begin in early January, according to The Charlotte Observer.
Work to Continue Through 2027 with Limited Closures
According to NCDOT, closures on Oakland Road will be restricted to between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., while closures on the other affected roads will occur only during non-peak daytime hours. Closures will also be limited during holidays and major events that generate higher traffic in the area.
Road work is expected to be completed by summer 2027, with landscaping and vegetation installation extending into 2028, the agency reported.
