The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a project Monday to modernize its Transportation Management System across Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.
The $10.7 million initiative will target 49 locations along major routes including Highways 33, 99, 108, 120, 132, 219 and Interstate 5.
Work is scheduled to continue through spring 2026, with crews operating during daytime and nighttime hours. Day shifts will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, while night work is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday.
Planned upgrades include new traffic cameras to support real-time monitoring, changeable message signs for alerts and updates and vehicle detection systems that track traffic flow and incidents.
Crews will also install Roadside Weather Information Systems, which monitor pavement and atmospheric conditions to support weather-related warnings and maintenance decisions.
Additional improvements involve constructing or upgrading maintenance pullouts and guardrails to improve worker and driver safety.
Motorists should expect periodic lane and shoulder closures throughout the project. Caltrans will release weekly traffic advisories with specific closure details on its District 10 website.
