Illinois is kicking off its construction season with 20 major projects thanks to Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program. The program is giving $825 million in funding to improve safety, mobility, and job growth across the Metro East region according to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

Eleven of the projects are planned to be finished by the end of 2024, with the rest scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2028.

“Rebuild Illinois is revitalizing communities and neighborhoods by investing in projects and people in the Decatur area and throughout the state,” Gov. Pritzker said in a statement. “Through the largest capital program in state history, IDOT will be delivering improvements to build a more resilient, accessible and equitable system of transportation for generations to come, while creating jobs and enhancing local quality of life.”

Some of the projects include upgrades to a stretch of Illinois 159, such as resurfacing and ADA improvements, patching up Beltline Road from Illinois 157 to 159, and upgrades to Illinois 162/157 at Judy’s Branch Creek.

Macon County also has some planned projects including:

  • Resurfacing U.S. route 51 from the DeWitt/Macon County line to Forsyth
  • Replacing Reas Bridge Road over Lake Decatur
  • Resurfacing Main Street from Eldorado Street in Harristown to North Glasgow Road
  • Replacing the U.S. Route 36 bridge over Lake Shore Drive
