ROADS/BRIDGES: INDOT reports continued improvement to roads and bridges

INDOT rated 95.3% of its roads and bridges as dair or better, a number that's been on the rise since 2013
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) reported continuing improvement to the condition of state roads and bridges. The results were submitted to the Federal Highway Administration and are based on a routine inspection performed on every public-road bridge every two years.
Over the past three years, the state bridges that inspectors have rated as fair or better has increased from 93% to 95.3%, bringing it above last year's national average of 94%.
INDOT has been able to improve its infrastructure through increased funding to transportation every year since 2013. In addition, during the 2013 legislative session, highway account diversions were ended and 1 percent of all sales tax revenues were dedicated to transportation.
In 2014, the Major Moves 2020 program funded highway widening and rehabilitation projects, including Interstate 65 near Lafayette. The current two-year state budget includes an additional $200 million for state highways.
