Kockelman receives inaugural honor

Dr. Kara Kockelman, assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, is the recipient of the inaugural Council of University Transportation Centers and American Road & Transportation Builders Association "Outstanding New Faculty Member in Transportation Award."

The award recognizes a new faculty member with less than six years experience who has already made significant contributions to transportation research and education.

Kockelman's research has focused on models of travel behavior, land-use travel demand interactions, crash consequences and the economic impacts of various design strategies and public policies.

She is active in several professional associations including the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, the Transit Cooperative Research Program and the Regional Science Association International. She also has been a leader in helping attract women and young people into transportation-related studies and careers.
