New web interface gives commuters real-time reliability information

Commuters can now keep tabs on the reliability of Boston-area MBTA's subways and buses via a new at-hand web-based tool to keep the public aware of the transit agency's health.

The MBTA launched "Dashboard," a new website at, that for the first time enables riders to do their own checking up on the reliability of the T's four subway lines and 170 bus routes. The Dashboard monitors rush-hour timeliness and budget information for the beleaguered agency, among other traits.

"Our ultimate goal is to make the MBTA one of the best transit systems in the country,” Massachusetts Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack said in a statement. “The Dashboard reflects our priority of making data-driven decisions and in keeping us accountable when it comes to customer satisfaction.”

The Dashboard provides the public with the same information used internally by the MBTA to improve on-time performance based on reliability, ridership, financials, and customer satisfaction, according to the T. In addition, the T will post data on ridership and budget matters on the site monthly.
