A groundbreaking new feature on the 2015 Ford Falcon will allow the vehicle to automatically dial emergency services in the event of an accident, according to the company. The hope is that contacting emergency services right away will help save lives in the event of a severe crash.
The 000 emergency auto-dial feature—one of the elements in Ford’s voice command SYNC 2 system—is enabled when the vehicle is paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth. If the airbags are deployed, the phone will automatically dial emergency services. Operators will be able to use the GPS coordinates of the phone to dispatch rescue workers to the scene.
Ford has already been including the 000 feature in selected imported vehicles for the last year, and it will also expand the emergency auto-dial to its Territory line of SUVs. The 2015 Falcon—produced at Ford's Australia plant—is scheduled to hit the market in late 2014.
In addition to the 000 feature, the SYNC 2 system also includes voice command functions for the radio, air conditioning and navigation systems.
