ACPA names recipients of 2018 Excellence in Concrete Pavements awards
Dec. 5, 2018—The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has named recipients of its 29th Annual Excellence in Concrete Pavements awards, which recognize quality concrete pavements constructed in the U.S. and Canada. The awards program encourages high-quality workmanship, quality, and creativity in concrete pavement projects. The award-winning projects were paved by 22 different contractors. Projects are located in 13 states or regions represented by ACPA-affiliated chapters and state paving associations. Winners were determined by 40 professionals who devoted their time and expertise to serve as judges. The program recognizes contractors, engineers and project owners who completed outstanding projects.
Acrow Bridge appoints Russ Parisi as vice president / general manager, U.S. and Canada
Dec. 3, 2018—Acrow Bridge, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, has announced the recent appointment of Russ Parisi as vice president/general manager, U.S. and Canada. In this newly created position, Parisi will report to Acrow President Mark Joosten and will be based in the company’s Parsippany headquarters. Prior to joining Acrow, Parisi served as vice president, USA at Hiab, and prior, was regional vice president at Volvo Construction Equipment. He is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.
American Society of Civil Engineers recognizes five finalists for 2019 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award
Nov. 30, 2018—The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announced the finalists for its 2019 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award (OCEA). Each finalist will be recognized at the Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Gala on March 14, 2019 in Arlington, Va. ASCE will announce one winner at the end of the event. The award recognizes exemplary civil engineering projects from around the world that contribute to the well-being of people and their communities, showcase the use of innovative materials and techniques, and demonstrate resourcefulness in the face of planning or design challenges. Each finalist ranks among the most impressive new engineering projects in the world. The 2019 OCEA finalists included transportation projects such as the Olympia Odos Motorway in North Peloponnese Coast, Greece, as well as the S.R. 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement program (northbound off-ramp bridge) in Seattle, Wash.
Crafco GeoTac HS serves as foundation for $11.6 million pavement preservation project
Nov. 27, 2018—Pavement preservation leader Crafco has been chosen to provide materials for one of the largest geosynthetic-based projects ever completed by the state of Washington. Led by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the $11.6 million initiative includes the replacement of 3 miles of bridge deck pavement along the U.S. 2/I-5 Interchange in Everett. The roadway handles an average of 22,000+ vehicles daily. Crafco geocomposites will serve as the foundation of the project, extending its longevity. Composed of a resilient textile material with a specialized polymer modified asphalt backing, Crafco GeoTac HS is designed to enhance roadways by locking out water, chemicals, and debris from entering the subbase, extending pavement service life.
ACEC Texas awards gold medal to LAN for Sugar Land University Boulevard Extension project
Nov. 21, 2018—The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Texas awarded civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) a gold medal for its work on the University Boulevard Extension project for the city of Sugar Land. The award, given under the transportation category, will be presented during the ACEC Texas Engineering Excellence Awards Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Irving, Texas, on March 23, 2019. The Engineering Excellence Awards competition has been held by ACEC Texas since 1975 to honor and recognize outstanding achievements within the engineering community. Spanning half-a-mile, the four-lane, divided, north-south connector extends University Boulevard north from the U.S. 90A intersection along the west edge of the business campus of Nalco Champion, a supplier to the oil and gas industry. The route then bridges over Oyster Creek and a Union Pacific Railroad spur before finally merging with Stadium Drive, which runs along the city’s newly built minor league baseball stadium, Constellation Field.
