The House Transportation-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee reported out the fiscal year 2008 funding bill for the Department of Transportation yesterday. The bill fully funds the highway and transit programs at the SAFETEA-LU guaranteed levels.
The highway program is funded at $40.2 billion (this includes the $39.6 billion authorized level and $630 million in RABA funds included to reflect actual Highway Trust Fund receipts). Highway program funding in fiscal year 2007 is $39.1 billion. The transit program is funded at $9.7 billion, an increase of approximately 8% over last year's level of $8.97 billion.
The bill also contains $3.6 billion for the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), an increase of $85.5 million above fiscal year 2007.
The House leadership hopes to have the bill considered by the full House by the end of June.
