In the winter, asphalt contracts and pavement cracks open to their widest. In the summer, the opposite occurs and any open cracks, close. During the spring, cracks are at their midpoint — not completely open or closed. This is the best time to crack seal. Before other maintenance starts, crack sealing in the spring is ideal. Crack sealing as a standalone treatment or preparation for other treatments offers contractors an early start to their work season.
