Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides 3D information helpful in planning before, during and after a disaster event. BIM is a software that draws and renders the plans for structures like bridges, buildings and tunnels in 3D. BIM models replace traditional, printed plans and CAD drawings, and contain critical data that conventional drawing methods cannot capture. BIM can help before, during, and after disaster events by assessing the structure during construction for knowledge of its materials and safety against harsh conditions, assisting evacuation efforts and assessing the damage of the structure, and then pinpointing the repairs of the structure after the event.
