Trivia Tuesday, Feb. 10
Last week's answer
Question: In 1928, to create a permanent and uniform "memorial" to the first transcontinental highway, the Boy Scouts of America installed as many as 3,000 of these specific markers along the Lincoln Highway. What were they?
Answer: Concrete pillars featuring a bronze medallion of Abraham Lincoln
The Lincoln Highway Association partnered with the Boy Scouts of America to install as many of the 3,000 markers as possible. They placed two markers at significant crossroads, one at minor crossings and along the roadway so drivers knew they were still driving on the highway. The markers were placed in a way to avoid interfering with state highway signs. The widening of the roadway has led to the disposal of many of the markers, as crews weren't aware of their historical significance.
