Trade show manager Messe Munchen was at the Paulaner restaurant in New York City cranking up the excitement for bauma 2016.
According to Managing Director Stefan Rummel, one of the largest trade shows in the world will have more than 3,400 exhibitors covering 6.5 million sq ft of space. Show officials are expecting 500,000 visitors. Rummel said bauma is actually expanding, but you won’t see it on the show floor. More space has been created for cycling and logistic areas.
“[bauma] is pulsating, it’s vibrant,” Rummel said. “There are two big things in Munich—Octoberfest and bauma.”
Worldwide equipment sales for the first half of 2015 shows a mixed bag of results. The U.S. (up 10%), Middle East (13%) and Europe (4%) had positive growth, but China (down almost 40%) and Russia (down 72%) continue to struggle.
The mining industry is limping along worldwide, and bauma is attempting to help revive it through a new offering called Mining Inside. Exhibitors that offer mining equipment will display the Mining Inside logo on the show floor and will have a special listing in the show guide.
“We know the mining sector, economically, is facing some challenges,” said Rummel. “We are focusing on mining because we think mining is becoming more and more important to our exhibitors.”
Rummel also unveiled the bauma Charity Alliance, which is a network of all the charity work in the construction equipment industry.
