ROAD CONSTRUCTION: Jamzilla disaster averted in L.A.

Just like its predecessors (Carmageddon I and II) Jamzilla turned out to be uneventful over President’s Day weekend, because drivers avoided the Los Angeles freeway work zone.

Just like its predecessors (Carmageddon I and II) Jamzilla turned out to be uneventful over President’s Day weekend, because drivers avoided the Los Angeles freeway work zone.

The northbound 405 Freeway was closed over the Presidents Day weekend through the Sepulveda Pass so the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority could pave what will be a new carpool lane and restripe the western section of the road.

The contractor reopened all five regular lanes of the 405 Freeway between Getty Center Drive and Ventura Boulevard at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, about an hour ahead of schedule, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, about an hour ahead of schedule, transportation officials reopened all five regular lanes between Getty Center Drive and Ventura Boulevard, and several California Highway Patrol squad cars led drivers onto the freeway.

"This proves Angelenos can come together for a cause, just like Carmageddon I and II," said Metro spokesman Marc Littman, referring to the full-weekend closures of the 405 in 2011 and 2012 that allowed workers to tear down the Mulholland Highway bridge.
