STV Inc., Stratford, Conn., has been selected by the Connecticut Department of Transportation to provide preliminary and final engineering design services for the $90 million reconstruction of a one-mile section of I-95 located along Long Wharf in New Haven. Major project elements include the addition of a fourth travel lane and the reconfiguration of interchange 46.

The reconstruction begins in the vicinity of the Howard Ave. Bridge and continues north for approximately one mile to the Canal Dock Road Bridge. The project area is the western-most section of I-95's five-mile Q-Bridge Corridor. As part of the project, STV also will design a signature pedestrian bridge over I-95, connecting the New Haven central business district to the town's waterfront park area.

"The most challenging features of this project will be developing workable staged construction plans to maintain traffic during construction, coordination with adjacent Q-Bridge Corridor projects and fast-tracking design to 'catch up' with the other projects on the corridor that are already well into design," said STV project manager Jim Sherwonit.
